Queen Elizabeth's

Founded in 1573 by Queen Elizabeth I for the "training of boys in manners and learning", this school seems to have stuck to its original purpose. Now grant maintained and selective on entry it is popular with parents throughout the north of London and its results have been excellent with 10 boys going to Oxbridge in 1999.

The school achieved national fame in 1999 when it became to top state school in the country according to exam results finishing ahead of Eton (they also beat them at rugby). The issue of selection is controversial with critics pointing to the fact that relatively few children from the immediate area gain admission.

Parents are actively encouraged to pay a regular monthly covenant of £25.

How do you get in?

Apply directly to the school - applicants will be required to take a test. 20 places each year are allocated based on musical ability.
